  Ogallala, the county seat of Keith County, is located along I-80 in western Nebraska. U.S. Highway 30, U.S. Highway 26 and Nebraska Highway 61 all intersect in Ogallala. The South Platte River flows through town and the North Platte River flows through Lake McConaughy, located 9 miles north of Ogallala.

Lake McConaughy is located 9 miles north of Ogallala, along Highways 26/61. Lake McConaughy was formed by damming the North Platter River, which starts in Colorado and comes to western Nebraska via Wyoming. When at capacity the lake boasts 100 miles of shoreline of white sand beaches and 30,000 surface acres of clear blue waters and some of the best walleye fishing in the nation. The lake is a mecca for sailboat and board sailing enthusiasts as well as fishermen and campers. Concessionaires around the lake offer restaurants, lodging, boat rentals, convenience/grocery stores, guide services, jet-ski rentals, scuba diving, and RV camp grounds.

Banner Health offers acute and primary medical care to the rural communities of west-central Nebraska. General and orthopedic surgeons are on staff along with services such as laboratory, radiology, sleep studies, infusion therapy, women’s services, physical therapy, speech therapy, and pharmacy. The hospital provides 24-hour emergency and OB services and has been designated a Basic Level Trauma Center.
