Laurel is centrally located in a tri-state area with Sioux City, Iowa, 42 miles east; Norfolk, Nebraska, 42 miles southwest; and Yankton, South Dakota, 54 miles northwest of the community.

The Wayne Municipal Airport, managed by Becker Flying Service, is located one mile east of Wayne, NE, approximately 17 miles south of Laurel. In 2014, Laurel-Concord Public Schools and Coleridge Community Schools consolidated as one school district called Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (LCC) Schools. The consolidation is the culmination of a decade-long partnership between the two school districts and their patrons. The former Laurel-Concord Public Schools facilities in Laurel house the central administrative offices for the new district, as well as the high school and elementary attendance centers. The former Coleridge Community Schools facility in Coleridge houses the middle school attendance center. LCC Schools is dedicated to the purpose of educating students to be responsible citizens, who can meet the challenges of an ever-changing world. Before the consolidation process and now as a unified district, LCC Schools has placed an emphasis on technology in the classroom. In 2012, the two districts partnered with Apple Inc. to provide a 1-to-1 laptop program for high school students and to provide laptop and iPad accessibility to the middle school and elementary students. The integration of cutting edge technology along with access to broadband internet has allowed LCC Schools to be a 21st Century institution that provides a 21st Century education.

Laurel is home to Cedar View Country Club, a 9-hole (par 72) public course, which is where PGA Golfer Mark Calcavechia learned to play. The Laurel Municipal Pool boasts a water slide, diving board, zero-entry wading pool, and bathhouse. The Laurel Walking Trail features nearly 2 miles of paved trails for walking, jogging, or biking. Haskell Field is located along US Highway 20 and contains the football field and track facilities for LCC Schools and the community. The Laurel Baseball Field is located at 4th and Cedar Streets, while the Laurel Softball Field is located at 3rd and Spruce Streets. The Laurel City Park is located at 3rd and Cedar Streets and hosts multiple community events, including Ag Days; has playground equipment, a picnic shelter, a stage, camper pads, and a bathhouse; and is home to two historic buildings. The Laurel Lions Club Park is located near the Laurel Municipal Pool and has playground equipment, an outdoor basketball court, camping areas, and picnic shelters. The LCC Schools Playground was built in 2014 and has playground equipment for toddlers and youth, has an outdoor basketball court, and is adjacent to the Laurel Walking Trail. The Laurel Community Fitness Center is located within LCC Schools and features treadmills, elliptical machines, free weights, and an indoor basketball court. The Laurel Recreation Board provides various youth activities all year including baseball, softball, football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer.

Laurel Family Medicine is staffed by one family-practice physician and is operated as a satellite clinic from Faith Regional Physicians Services of Norfolk, NE. In 2015, Laurel Family Medicine began operating at a brand-new facility on Main Street. Hillcrest Care Center is a 41-bed nursing home certified for Medicare and Medicaid. Adjoining the nursing home is an accredited assisted living unit with ten apartments and a community room. Laurel has an EMT squad made up of volunteers from the community. Providence Medical Center in Wayne is a 25-bed acute hospital with 24-hour emergency room service. Providence Physical Therapy Clinic has a facility in Laurel offering physical, occupational, and aquatic therapy with a full time staff. In 2013, AC Chiropractic began operating on Main Street offering chiropractic care. Main Street Apothecary is a full-service locally-owned pharmacy affiliated with Health Mart Pharmacy.

Our Community: Laurel, Nebraska is a peaceful farming community located in the Northeast region of the state. Home to nearly 1,000 residents, Laurel is a community full of active and dedicated citizens. Laurel has witnessed the continued development of the Norris property. With the help of the entire community, our city is taking great pride in our achivements. Exciting progress has been made in Laurel recently as the community teamed with Laurel High School to construct the Community Learning Center complete with computer lab, distance learning facility, and a vast amount of educational resources.
