Our Community: The city of Crofton is a active community in northeast Knox County and is proud of is proximity to Lewis & Clark Lake and all of the recreational opportunities that includes. The many acres of wooded trees along the Missouri River also offer many hunting activities. Tourism is definitely a solid economic avenue for the community. It also serves the farming community which surrounds the city and defines it as a rural community. Because of the passing of a recent sales tax revenue option, the city is exploring economic development so it can stay competitive with other area rural communities. Recently a lodge/motel was built by an investor group, a transit bus purchased by the city is available and run with volunteers, and new playground equipment has been erected. There is a very active community/chamber group which holds activities like Santa Day, Easter Bunny Run, and Halloween trick or treating in downtown businesses for the downtown area. This group along with the local baseball organization sponsor fireworks for the July 4th holiday, a street dance, a fall festival with rummage sale and car show, volunteer at a youth fishing camp in the Weigand/Burbach State Recreation Area, and actively do clean-up activities around town. Many of the residents reside in Crofton and send their children to the excellent school while working in area communities like Yankton, Creighton, and Hartington. Its slogan is ‘The Best Little Town by A Dam Site,’ acknowledging Gavins Point Dam and the recreation areas along the Lake and the Missouri River.
